The Compression of Invisible Shards of Prison Glass Within Our City

There are the days,
the sun, a heady furnace,
burgeoning lasers and storms
of white, frying me in a crouch,
as the charging knights on horses
of glass come round to crush our souls
while we earn a meager living, one
that certainly requires gratitude, but one
that requires imprisonment within the
towers of slick darkness reflecting the evils
of those we never see, of those who would
starve us of our grand purpose, who would
steal our grace, would have us grip the
carpeting, chewing plastic trucks
waiting for freedom that will never be
here in our canons of dark light,
longingly searching for anyone
who might comfort us in our
endless decline.

Wow–I have never seen a “take me to the hospital” tag before. Great poem.

Thank you for your comment. That tag is half humor, half serious and is a play on the song by that name.

The title is a stand alone line in itself!

Great write! Very vivid, awesome title, and one terrific line after another. I sense a similarity in theme between your poem and mine this week.

    comfort us in our
    endless decline.

Hits home as just found out 88 year old mother advanced stage 4 cancer to liver. Parents have lived with me last 10 years and I am sole caretaker. No sense chemo and will keep her here at home. Pray her “decline” painless and swift.

I’m sorry about your Mother, Carl. I’m hoping you have all of the strength in the world as you support her and others on the journey.
