Half-Mending
Soothing, loud counterpoint
Bach tries persistently
But cannot fill
The gashes in a
Broken soul
Another Day, An Old Day
A New Day,
And I ask God,
Please keep me sober
Because I need a painkiller.
Another Day,
And another victory:
I did not go out to buy the gun.
Another Day,
And I have the tree,
But I did not have a good rope.
Another Day,
And I inch back into the wicked storms,
Begging for a hurricane to bury me
In millions of pearls of sand,
Lifeless, bright, shiny sand.
